In Defense of Ska June 2022 (Semi) Newsletter
Hey everyone, I’ve been swamped working on my second edition of In Defense of Ska, so I haven’t had a chance to write a newsletter. If you’d like to hear about what will be in the 2nd edition, Adam and I talk about it on this Patreon-exclusive episode. We also did a bonus episode with Adam’s kids to see what it was like for them to have a ska dad!
Thanks for subscribing to the newsletter. I hope you had a chance to listen to our June episodes. We talked to John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats about Jamaican ska and Sad Snack’s surprise performance of Ska No Children at Mountain Goats’ San Francisco show. We interviewed Dane Roberts about Victoria Ska & Reggae Festival, which is the longest-running ska festival in North America. We chatted with three members of Mephiskapheles and asked them a lot of questions about why they’re so awesome. We also talked to ska comedian Brandie Posey, who told us that everything from 12-foot skeletons to Andrew W.K. was ska. And we ended the month with School Drugs screamer Josh Jurk, who played drums in the Awful Waffle reunion set at the recent Ska Mom Memorial show.
